Abstract

Internet of things (IoT) has brought probably the largest wave in the cyber industry after the Internet and mobile communications. This chapter outlines some typical properties of IoT, and describes the challenges that are to be dealt with in IoT data processing. It addresses all the possible architectures such as Fog computing, Mobile-edge computing, and Cloudlets that can be used for processing IoT data considering different factors. The chapter explains the security and privacy issues of each archetype, and focuses on the security and privacy issues in IoT. It presents a rational view on whether the overstressed concern on the security and privacy in IoT is really that worrisome. Grid computing and cloud computing has been the most favorable platform for IoT data processing. On-site processing is a technique that is typically deployed on the sensor devices so that the sensed data are processed in and by the sensor devices themselves.
