Abstract

The aim of the article is to design a system for yearly automatic control of street lighting. The idea is to increase the energy efficiency by switching ON the lights only in the dark part of the day. Using GPS coordinates and the trajectory of the sun, the time for switching the lights ON and OFF varies depending on the day of the year. The electronic system for monitoring and control of street lighting system is designed and developed on the basis of the IoT concept. The fundamental principle of the operation is based on the transmission and reception of information via GPRS, GPS and GSM network to a built physical server, connected in one way or another to the Internet network and receiving position data and accurate time from the GPS navigation system.
