Abstract

Dieminger and Kohl (Nature, 193: 983(1982)) described some ionospheric phenomena observed at Lindau, Germany, on October 30, 1961, following a large nuclear explosion at Novaya Zemlya in the arctic. Since the recordings were made at 1/2-hourly intervals, the precise time of the onset of the disturbance could not be pinpointed. For a large part of the day concerned, recordings were made at Aberystwyth, Wales, at 1/4-hourly intervals and these provide additional information on the ionospheric effects at a distance of 3570 km from the source. Data from these measurements are given.
