Abstract

MR. P. J. GILLESPIE has recently questioned the claim that a small radioactive source attached to a lightning conductor can provide protection over a wide radius as a result of ionization of the surrounding air1. He points out that if this claim is justified, then users of large sources of ionizing radiations in hospitals and industry may be at considerable hazard from lightning.
