Abstract

AbstractPlots of solution oxidation potential (Eo′, V vs sce in acetonitrile) versus vapor phase vertical ionization potential (IPv, eV) are discussed for several types of compounds containing amino nitrogen, including tetraalkylhydrazines, tetraalkyl‐2‐tetrazenes, bicyclic diamines, and ortho and para‐substituted phenylenediamines. All amino compounds fall considerably below the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon line in an Eo′ vs IPv plot, and there is not a linear correlation of Eo′ vs IPv for amino compounds. Reasons for the non‐linearity, and the information that can be gained by comparison of the ease of electron removal in the vapor and solution phases are discussed.
