Abstract
Analytical expressions for ionization-excitation cross sections of He to np-states by high energy projectiles are presented. The cross sections by antiprotons and protons are computed for excitation to the 2p-state. Ionization-excitation by antiprotons is found to be a factor of two larger than that by equivelocity protons in the projectile energy range from 1–3 MeV/amu. For a fast projectile with a low momentum transfer the corresponding limiting energy of the ejected electron is found to be less than a half of the threshold for double ionization. For like-charged particles (p−, e−) the dependence of the cross section on mass is discussed. Present result is compared with the available data.
