Abstract
An automated retarding potential difference (RPD) technique, of novel design, has been employed to determine ionization efficiency curves of positive (Ar +) and negative (O − from CO and SO 2) ions. The system employs a staircase ionizing voltage generator and counting techniques to measure ion intensities. An ionization efficiency curve is obtained in a single run, not necessitating a multichannel analyzer. The results are compared with previous electron impact, RPD and deconvolution data.
