Abstract

Ionic liquid salt bridge (ILSB) more effectively isolates the working electrode from the reference electrode, retaining the electrochemical contact between them, than the traditional salt bridge made of a concentrated aqueous solution of potassium chloride does. This mini-review summarizes the basic principles of ILSB and the progress in ten years since it was proposed.
