Abstract
The influence of intercalation on the lattice energy and configuration entropy of a Li x Mn 2O 4 crystal is discussed in the paper. Conclusions have been drawn which permit the ionic description of intercalation. On the basis of statistical thermodynamics and the Born–Haber cycle the change of the Gibbs free energy has been calculated. The OC voltage of the Li/Li +/Li x Mn 2O 4 cell has been estimated as well.
