Abstract

The study of ionic transference at the interface between two immiscible electrolytes (ITIES) has grown in interest in the last years, extending the type of interfaces formed by non-traditional immiscible electrolytes, like the ionic liquids, for example. In this work we present the development of a biphasic system which can be adopted for the development of novel interfaces for the ionic transfer. The composition of the two-phase system is based on water, sucrose, propanol and polyethylenglycol (PEG). The partition coefficients of lithium chloride, potassium thiocyanate, bis-(triphenylenphosphoran-ylidene) ammonium chloride and thiocyanate in the biphasic system were determined. From these measurements, lithium chloride and bis-(triphenylenphosphoran-ylidene) ammonium thiocyanate were selected as supporting electrolytes. An electrochemical window of 1000 mV was determined form cyclic voltammetry experiments.
