Abstract

This article describes two experiments in which attention is called to certain modifications of the ionic strength principle in applying the Debye-Huckel law expression to solubility data. The experiments are designed to demonstrate that the solubility of calcium sulfate increases in solutions containing certain 1-1 salts and to account for the increase by the prediction of theory and/or by the formation of complexes involving the calcium or sulfate ions.
