Abstract

Dipyrrolylbenzenes bearing a tethered carboxylate unit with a countercation have been synthesized as components of anion-binding self-assemblies via hydrogen bonding between the anionic moieties and pyrrole NH units. The 1D-chain self-assembled structures, as negatively charged supramolecular polymers, provide solid-state ion-pairing assemblies, whose assembly modes depend on the coexisting cations.
