Abstract

Ion-exchange papers have been exploited for many years and more recently thin layers of ion-exchange character have found applications. Now, attention is being paid to the long neglected techniques of liquid chromatography. This has been encouraged by the introduction of precision chromatography columns where the dead space is minimised and sample loading simplified by specially designed end pieces. Instruments have also fostered interest by providing a full range of equipment particularly for monitoring many properties in the column effluent. This growth in the ret~mement of equipment has been matched by the design of ion-exchange column materials specifically for the biochemist.
