Abstract

Abstract Cross-linked resins containing vinyl amine units spaced by cyclic urea units are obtained by pyrolysis of poly(t-butyl N-vinyl carbamate) at 200°C, followed by treatment of the pyrolysate with HBr/HOAc solution and subsequent neutralization. The resins are very stable and are suitable for chromatographic separation of acidic amino acids, peptides, and heavy metal ions. The selectivity of the resins for metal ions is in the order Cu−2 ≧ Zn+2 Ni+2 ∼ Co+2 ≧Na+ ∼ Mg+
