Abstract
We report the electrical characteristics of light emitting electrochemical cells (LECs) consisting of a wide band gap light emitting polymer, mLPPP, (methyl substituted ladder type poly(paraphenylene)) and Li-triflate based solid state electrolytes using either PEO (poly(ethylene oxide)) or a crown ether as ion-coordinating and transporting compounds. The crown ether based devices show an improved performance. This behavior is discussed by comparing the infrared spectra of the PEO and the crown ether based blends, that, going along with Cram's principle of preorganization, show a much higher ion dissociation in the case of the crown ether blends.
