Abstract

A new determination of the thermal rate constants for the reactions ▪ has been made using a rather simple homemade ion cyclotron resonance spectrometer. The relative rate constants: k 2/ k 1 = 0.65±0.06 and k 3/ k 1 = 1.45±0.15 are in good agreement with the mass spectrometric measurements of Harrison confirming that k 3/ k 1 is significantly higher than determined by Huntress The dependence of the rate constants on the ion kinetic energy and ionizing electron energy has also been investigated. The main negative ions NH 2 −, NH − and H −, have been observed but no ion-molecule reaction giving NH 3 − (or ND 3 −) has been found.
