Abstract

The ion control characteristics of the electrodes are the most important factor in the ion flow printing process. The authors measure the corona current passing through the aperture electrodes and calculate the ion trajectories from the electrostatic potential near the electrodes. The data are expressed as the ion transmission rate f, which has three non-dimensional parameters relating to the electric field and aperture geometry. Printing conditions for the process are calculated using this ion transmission rate f.
