Abstract

Abstract o 1. The concentrations of Na + , K + , Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ , and Cl − ions in the hemolymph of two southwestern USA scorpions, Hadrurus arizonensis and Paruroctonus mesaensis , were determined (Table 1). The pH was also measured. 2. On the basis of these determinations, perfusion salines were established. Hadrurus arizonensis : NaCl—20.47 g/l; KCL—0.84 g/l; CaCl 2 —1.08 g/l; MgCl 2 —0.16 g/l (pH 7.2 with Tris buffer). Paruroctonus mesaensis : NaCl—19.30 g/l; KCl—0.70 g/l; CaCl 2 —0.84 g/l; MgCl 2 —0.17 g/l (pH 7.5 with a Tris buffer). 3. Previously published major ion determinations and pH measurements on the hemolymph of 6 additional species of scorpions are presented in Table 2. These values are in general quite comparable to those of Hadrurus arizonensis and Paruroctonus mesaensis .
