Abstract

Ion beam mixing of Al/Fe bilayers has been studied by irradiation with Xe +-ions at room temperature as a function of the thickness of the top-layer and the ion fluence for doses from 5 × 10 15 to 7.5 × 10 16 ions/cm 2. Auger electron spectroscopy data reveal that the mixing induced diffusivity can be considered as a function of concentration. The diffusion coefficients are evaluated by the Boltzmann-Matano method. A strong dependence of the diffusion coefficients and the mixing-efficiencies on the ion dose, the thickness of the top-layer and the nuclear energy deposition is observed.
