Abstract

The dietary iodine intake, urinary iodide excretion and plasma inorganic iodide levels have been measured in 8 patients after total gastrectomy. Despite a normal dietary intake of iodine the urinary excretion and plasma inorganic iodine levels were low, suggesting that the iodine deficiency was due to malabsorption of iodine.
