Abstract

Gyroscopic and hyperfine predissociation parameters, C v 2 and a v 2, for vibrational levels v′ = 17−25 of the B 3Π(0 u +) state of I 2 have been evaluated by laser-induced fluorescence. Measurements of fluorescence decay of rovibrational levels of the B state are efficient in the determination of predissociation parameters in the region of interest between the first relative minimum and the second maximum of predissociation of the B state. Contributions of the interaction mechanisms to the natural predissociation of the I 2 B state have been evaluated, showing a higher preponderance of the hyperfine predissociation interaction than previously estimated. C v 2 and a v 2 dependence on Franck-Condon densities and electronic matrix elements is discussed.
