Abstract

The stimulation by ATP of β glucan synthase activities of cell-free extracts of Saprolegnia monoica was enhanced by the presence of glucose-phosphates. These effects were obtained in conditions of 1,4-β glucan synthesis; on the contrary, strong inhibition was observed during 1,3-β glucan production. This stimulation was suppressed when particulate enzymes were pretreated with phosphatase. These results suggest that phosphorylation is involved in regulation of β glucan synthesis.
