Abstract

In pentobarbital anaesthetized dogs pretreated with the β-blocking agent Kö 592, repeated i.v. injections of angiotensin increased blood pressure and produced a vagus-mediated, reflex bradycardia. Intracisternal (i.ci.) injections of clonidine 1 mg/kg (an α-receptor stimulating agent), significantly increased the reflex bradycardia and this effect was significantly antagonized by phentolamine, 0.5 mg/kg, i.ci. (an α-receptor blocking agent). The results indicate involvement of adrenergic receptors in central vagus activity.
