Abstract
Significant progress has occurred in the progress towards electrification of transportation and more recently aviation. Despite this progress, significant hurdles remain. Enabling mass-market electrification of transportation and aviation requires analyzing performance and cost trade-offs of electrochemical energy storage systems. In this talk, I will outline analysis of the technical and economic metrics for various possible electrochemical systems to enable electrification of light-duty vehicles, long-haul trucks and aviation. The focus will be on highlighting challenging trade-offs and tying it back to material performance targets required.
