Abstract

The previous speakers addressed the problem of the standardization of procedures and definitions and that of variable medical support arising from the fact that many physicians may treat the same patient during the course of a clinical trial. As a consequence of these issues, the internal monitoring of physician and patient adherence to protocol is necessary if protocol results are to be interpreted. At the Mayo Clinic, we have developed procedures to address these problems which are especially important since we simultaneously monitor some 150 protocols.
