Abstract

In recent years, activities related to hydrogen utilization have become active all over the world in the movement toward carbon neutrality. Many hydrogen-related activities are also being carried out at Tanaka Kikinzoku. Examples of applications using precious metals include catalysts for fuel cells and catalysts for water electrolysis. This time, we will report on the latest updates of fuel cell catalysts and water electrolysis catalysts at Tanaka Precious Metals and the importance of precious metal recycling.Pt-based catalysts are widely used as precious metal catalysts for fuel cells. Pt is a chemically and thermally stable substance, but it deteriorates in a harsh environment such as a PEM fuel cell. Especially in a situation such as a load fluctuation of an automobile, severe deterioration such as dissolution of Pt occurs. Such a problem is regarded as a major issue for the spread of fuel cells, and Tanaka Kikinzoku is also continuously developing it as an important development item. In this report, I would like to report on some attempts to improve load fluctuation tolerance. And continuous supply of platinum is indispensable for the use of fuel cells. I would also like to report on the outlook for the recycling business at Tanaka Kikinzoku.
