Abstract

Rylenes are peri-fused naphthalene oligomers and have showed very interesting photophysical properties such as large molar extinction coefficient, high fluorescent quantum yield and very good photostability. Porphyrin-based dyes recently have been proved to be promising sensitizers for high-efficiency dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). In this work, we demonstrated that a combination of rylene and porphyrin could lead to a new type of sensitizers for DSCs with power conversion efficiency as high as 10.5%. I will discuss the synthesis of a series of rylene and porphyrin-based near-infrared dyes and their applications for DSCs. Figure 1
