Abstract

In Europe, tall herb communities dominated by Oenanthe crocata are found on alluvial soils mainly in Atlantic vegetation zones. The floristic variability of these communities has been summarised by means of multivariate classification and ordination methods. Nomenclatural aspects concerning Oenanthe crocata communities have been revised. Two associations have been distinguished in the class Phragmito‐Magnocaricetea: the fresh water Glycerio declinatae‐Oenanthetum crocatae and the brackish water Cochleario aestuariae‐Senecietum aquatici. Two others associations, Rumici obtusifolii‐Oe‐nanthetum crocatae ana Oenantho crocatae‐Filipenduletum ulmariae, were also recognised as corresponding to the classes Molinio‐Arrhenatheretea and Filipen‐dulo ulmariae‐Calystegietea septum, respectively.
