Abstract
Taiwan has strategically invested in flexible electronics for over 10 years. With Taiwan government’s support, ITRI has established the first flexible electronics pilot laboratory in Asia in 2007. The purpose is to facilitate the development of flexible electronics worldwide. During these years, many Taiwanese companies have entered the stage of mass production in flexible electronics, including E-paper, printed touch panels, printed RF-ID antenna, smart cards with displays, flexible pressure sensors, solar cells, etc. They have played key roles in the world. In the recent years, there are three focuses in the flexible electronics pilot laboratory: 1) roll-to-roll for production revolution; 2) OLED lighting for sun-like color; 3) Bio-sensor platform. With over twenty leading companies, ITRI has developed cutting-edge flexible electronic technologies, such as roll-to-roll touch panels using 3um fine line printing based on 100um ultra-thin glass, free-shape ultra-thin substrate cutting technique with >500MPa bending strength, OLED light engines in pilot production scale, digital manufacture for industry. In this April, ITRI debuted the first high-end OLED lighting modules using full roll-to-roll process.
