Abstract

Obtaining atomic and molecular level understanding of electrolyte and electrode-electrolyte interphase is critical to the battery developments. In this talk, I will present a multimodal approach combining the powerful cryogenic electron microscopy technique, electrochemical technique and solvation entropy and free energy measurements. I will discover including: 1) atom-resolved images of solid electrolyte interphase for Li metal and Si anodes; 2) Insight on the debate on the existence of cathode electrolyte interphase; 3) the solvation structure and related thermodynamic parameters and their correlation with electrochemical performance.
