Abstract

Li-alloy based anode materials are one of the most promising anodes for next-generation Li-ion batteries. The poor interfacial stability (unstable solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI)) in the battery has been the primary issue hindering their practical application. In this talk, I will present a strategy that introducing multiple functional components bonded to the Li-alloy material surface into the SEI to reinforce the SEI with desired properties including good tolerance to the Li-alloy material volume change and efficient surface passivation against electrolyte penetration. The SEI reinforced by this strategy shows much better stability than the SEI reinforced by electrolyte additive strategy, which is the current state-of-art and commercially used solution to SEI stability issue.
