Abstract

In this issue of The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Toeg and colleagues [1] compare important midterm echocardiographic outcomes from patients undergoing valve sparing root replacement (VSRR) to patients undergoing valve and root replacement (Bentall) [1]. Their data demonstrate that both methods of root replacement produce equivalent degrees of reverse left ventricular remodeling, valve function, and ventricular function, with the additional benefit of VSRR patients having lower transvalvular gradients.
