Abstract

The ancient wisdom “practice makes perfect” has essentially been proved in almost every surgical specialty worldwide, yet Umana-Pizano and colleagues1 present a thought-provoking observation. They should be commended for their 18-year retrospective analysis in the unique setting of surgical repair of acute type A aortic dissection at a well-recognized center of excellence. They clearly demonstrated that high-volume surgeons, rather than low-volume surgeons in a high-volume center, produce the best clinical outcomes.
