Abstract

This introduction to my work seeks to account for the kind of history that I practice, and outline exactly why I think particular modes of investigation, types of historiographical practice and iterations of historical engagement will provide us with new insight into the way in which history works in popular culture. I discuss the formation of what I term ‘historical sensibility’ and look at several key issues: anachronism; desire; commodity; authenticity.
