Abstract

Japan has paid the closest attention to American technical developments, often in order to adopt it. Japanese venture capital today is for the most part copies of American originals. But because the Japanese industrial and social context is so different form the American, the Japanese venture capital has taken on a different shape. Now although the Japanese VC industry is still a young, small industry, in another word, it shows that there is still a substantial room for further development, which makes VC still a promising industry in Japan. The paper discusses the Japanese VC history, development trend and some new operation characteristics which give us a new perspective to understand the current development of VC industry and investing activities in Japan.
