Abstract

AbstractThe reaction of maleic anhydride (MAn) copolymers with tert‐butyl hydroperoxide results in copolymers with lateral perester and carboxyl groups. As these copolymers are of interest as initiators of free‐radical polymerization, their decomposition mechanism and their decomposition constants were investigated. Surprisingly, a dependence of the decomposition constants on the comonomer of MAn was found. The interaction of the carboxyl group with the perester group is discussed as an essential reason of the comonomer influence.
