Abstract

This study examines different metallic coatings for Siboramic fibers. The resulting surface and subsurface layers have been characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM-EDX) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM-EDX). Dense and tightly adhering coatings of chromium and aluminium have been obtained. These offer attractive options for tuning the fiber/matrix interfaces in ceramic matrix composites (CMCs), e.g. in Siboramic fiber reinforced amorphous Si/B/N/C matrices.
