Abstract

In this paper, a numerical method for dynamic characteristics of cable in marine linear towage is proposed. The governing equation of the towing system is established based on the lumped mass method. The continuous dynamic characteristic partial differential equation is obtained by the discretization of cascade nodes. The equation is solved by the finite difference time domain method. Through numerical simulation, the tension variation curves and cable response configuration under three different operating conditions-when there is no current, along with and against sea current directions-are given respectively, which can be used for dynamic load estimation and motion trajectory prediction in towed-array systems. The comparison between the numerical example results and the experimental demonstrates the validity of the method and is of practical significance for improving maritime safety and operational efficiency.
