Abstract
Metal matrix composites are gaining more interest among the researchers as it has various applications in the automobile and manufacturing fields. Aluminium metal matrix composites are mostly reinforced with carbides to improve its surface hardness, corrosion and wear properties. In this work the C type glass fiber and egg shell powder are added to Al7075 in fixed proportions and the composite are produced through stir casting method. The casted composites are then tested for its tensile strength and corrosion resistance properties. Due to the addition of the egg shell powder, the corrosion of the material is reduced as it act as corrosion inhibitors. As the C type glass fibers are added, the tensile strength of the aluminium composite increases and also the C type glass fibers exhibit good resistance against corrosions against acids. The reinforcement and the filler proportions are varied according to Taguchi’s experimental design. In this research it was found that due to the inclusion of the glass fiber the tensile strength of the material increased and addition of the egg shell powder increased the corrosion resistance.
