Abstract

In quasicrystalline Al61Ge18Mn21 the critical behavior of the magnetic phase transition is investigated by means of a vibrating sample magnetometer. The existence of a Curie temperature TC and a spontaneous polarization JS shows that the Al61Ge18Mn21 quasicrystals exhibit typical ferrimagnetic properties. To support this fact we have made a detailed analysis of the magnetic phase transition from the ferrimagnetic to the paramagnetic state. The critical exponents β, γ′, γ and δ are determined by modified Arrott plots, Kouvel-Fisher plots, scaling plots and ln J vs. ln(μ0H) plots. The exponent values obtained by these different methods are in agreement with the theoretical values evaluated for materials with weak random magnetic anisotropy (RMA).In addition, the temperature dependent Kouvel-Fisher exponent γ(T) is determined for the quasicrystalline as well as for the disordered crystalline phase.
