Abstract

In this paper, the bursting performance of triaxial woven fabric is studied by finite element method and experimental approach, and compared with plain woven fabric. The influence parameters (impactor shapes and bursting speeds) to the bursting performance are investigated. At the same time, discussions are made on the burst morphologies and load-displacement curves of the specimens during the bursting test. The results indicate that the finite element simulation results are in good agreement with the experimental results. For the load-displacement curve of triaxial woven fabric, blunter impactors produce higher slopes, larger fracture loads, and smaller initial damage displacements. The bursting morphologies of specimens show that triaxial woven fabric is more stable than plain weave fabric. The bursting speeds have no effect on the bursting performance of triaxial woven fabric and plain weave fabric. Contact positions have a certain influence on the bursting performance only for conical impactor.
