Abstract

The wear characteristics of hydraulic fluids in actual pump wear test was evaluated by simulating test using a 3-vane on disk type testing apparatus. The results obtained were as follows. The wear characteristics in the actual pump was reproducible in the simulation test with rubbing material combination similar to the actual pump, where the lubrication regime was kept in boundary lubrication although the applied load was increased and the sliding speed was decreased compared with those in the actual pump to attain the wear test quickly. It was found that to successfully evaluate the actual pump wear characteristic by the simulation test, it was necessary to carry out the simulation test at the same rubbing surface temperature as that of the actual pump.
