Abstract

The present work reports the steady 3+ state of Gd in the LiGa5O8 matrix using the combustion route without a further calcining treatment. The as-prepared combustion products were well characterized by x-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscope measurements. The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectrum of this system exhibited various resonance signals between g = 2.0 and 6.05. The EPR parameters of the system at 300 K and 110 K were calculated and compared. From the EPR data, various EPR parameters such as the number of spins, Gibbs free energy, magnetic susceptibility, empirical Curie constant, empirical Curie temperature, effective magnetic moment and zero-field splitting values are calculated and compared.
