Abstract

Objective To assess sleep quality and mental health status of psychiatric department nurses, so that we can make measures to improve sleep quality, promote physical and mental health. Methods A total of 165 psychiatric department nurses and 145 general hospital nurses were investigated by adopting PSQI scale, SCL-90 and general self-designed questionnaire. We sent out 318 questionnaires and took back 310, the recovery rate is 97.48%. Results 86 of the 165 (52. 12%) psychiatric department nurses showed problems in sleep; while only 40 of the 145 (27.58%) general hospital nurses had problems in sleep. The average score in PSQI scale of psychiatric department nurses was higher than general hospital nurses, the difference was statistically significant;the PQSI total scores and SCL-90 each factor score had a positive correlation. Conclusions The sleep quality of psychiatric department nurses is very poor, somatization problems are very serious, sleep quality is closely related to mental health.
