Abstract

An organic nonlinear optical (NLO) single crystal of Pyridine 3-carboxylic acid, which has potential application in a variety of fields was grown by solution growth technique. The single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis confirms that the grown crystals possess lattice parameters of monoclinic system of space group (P21/c). The Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) study provides the evidence for the presence of essential functional groups in Pyridine 3-carboxylic acid single crystal. The optical parameters such as transmittance, absorption coefficient, refractive index and optical band gap of the grown crystals were obtained using ultraviolet visible (UV-Vis-NIR) spectroscopy. The red luminescence behavior and Second Harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency were measured. The soft ferromagnetic nature of the grown sample was ascertained from vibrational sample magnetometer analyses. In addition, the mechanical property was also examined.
