Abstract

Previous researches show that synchronous magnetic field applied in arcing time can influence the dynamic voltage distribution (DVD). However, there is a few study on the non-synchronous magnetic field control of multi-break vacuum circuit breakers (VCBs). In order to find a better method to control the non-synchronous magnetic field of multi-break VCBs in series, the Helmholtz coil was designed to generate stable magnetic field. The magnetic field distribution of the coil was simulated and analyzed in Maxwell to verify feasibility. To realize doublebreak non-synchronous control, the double-break nonsynchronous magnetic field control system was designed. The external magnetic field (EMF) experiment platform for double-break VCBs was set up. In the experiment, the applied moment and strength of EMF on each break can be adjusted by the non-synchronous magnetic field control system. By comparing the results of DVD under 7 different combinations of applied moment or strength, the effects and influence mechanism of different EMF applied to two breaks on DVD were obtained. The results of this study provide references for the design of series vacuum arc extinguishing chamber and the magnetic field control of multi-break VCBs.
