Abstract

We investigate the recently observed Ω(2012) baryon using QCD sum rules. By constructing P-wave Ω baryon currents and performing spin projection and parity projection, we obtain the masses of the JP=1/2− and 3/2− states as M1/2−=2.07−0.07+0.07GeV and M3/2−=2.05−0.10+0.09GeV, in good agreement with experiment. This suggests that Ω(2012) is likely to be a negative parity P-wave excited state, though its spin remains undetermined and requires further study of its decay properties.
