Abstract

Objective To investigate the status mental health of operating room nurses, and explore the relationship between their mental health and social support. Methods A sample of 120 operating room nurses from three Grade A hospitals of Beijing were investigated with Symptom Checklist 90 and social support scale. Results The total score of social support of nurses were (29.46 ± 5.51 ), the score of objective were (6.53 ± 1.34) and subjective support were (16.07 ± 4.15). The total score of social support is negatively related to Symptom Checklist 90 (P < 0. 05 ), and subjective support, objective support and three dimension of support were negatively related to Symptom Checklist 90 (P < 0.01 ). Education level was positively related to support utilization(P <0.01 ). Conclusions The social support from nurse is related with mental health level. Social support will benefit the mental health of operating nurses. Key words: Operating room nurses; Mental health; Social support
