Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effects of nursing intervention on coping style and emotional disorder of relatives of the senile dementia in hospital. Methods Sixty-five relatives of the inpatients with senile dementia were randomly assigned to con trol group and nursing intervention group, who were investigated with SCL-90 and coping style questionnaire (TCSQ) at 4-week intervals. The former received comprehensive intervention, while the latter received routine nursing. Results After 12-week, in intervention group, the factor-scores of SCL-90 such as somatization, interpersonal relationship were significantly reduced (P<0.05), and the factor-scores of SCL-90 such as depression were significantly reduced (P<0.05), The factor-score of negative coping style of the intervention group was significantly lower than those in control group (P<0.05). Conclusions Nursing intervention can improve depression and anxiety, negative coping style of the relatives of the senile dementia in hospital.
