Abstract

The objective of the research work was to investigate the effect of addition of nickel into ZA alloy on damping properties. The Ni-modified ZA alloy has been prepared with 1, 1.5, 2 and 2.5% of Ni by Metallurgical Technique. The damping specimens of 70 x 10 x 2 mm3 were machined from the casted modified ZA alloy. The damping properties of Ni-modified ZA alloy tested for damping behaviour and dynamic young’s modulus of the ZA alloy and the Ni-modified ZA alloys were studied temperature range from room temperature to 300 °C by DMA. The damping capacity of Ni based ZA modified alloys were increased with increasing in temperature but dynamic modulus was decreased with increasing temperature. ZA modified shows different behaviour such as a maxima and it increases with increasing the Ni content which is due to thermal stresses.
